I'm thinking of adding an inspection cover to my freshwater tank to help cleaning. What sealant is recommended when mounting it? Is standard bathroom silicon or sikaflex OK?

Clear RTV silicone is fine. My tank cover is fitted with it, about 15 inches square, has never leaked. Just be careful that when you bolt up the holding screws some little blobs of the silicone will fall into the tank. They can get into the valves of the fresh water pump, preventing them from sealing. So unless you already have one, fit a suction strainer.

Sikaflex has far more powerful adhesive properties so your hatch will be more difficult to remove.

I agree but be warned some of the sealants contain poisons ,fungacides and the like so read the lable and only refill the tank when the stuff is set./forums/images/icons/wink.gif
