Fresh Water Pump Problem

The boat's pump has started making a rather load banging noise when on but not actually pumping (that bit is fine). The only change is that we are now on the hard rather than in the water.

Does this mean a new pump or is there another solution?

You'll need to give a lot more detail of the pump type and system design to get an incisive answer! First thoughts are that the pump is trying to pump against a fully pressurized system, so it stalls and creates a sort of water hammer effect. I'd start by looking at the pressure switch, whether remote or integral to the pump.
