i have just replaced the shurflo fresh water pump after 10 years good service but the spare i have fitted is 40 psi , which will empty the tanks p d q ! is there a way to reduce this pressure ? with an inline fitting ?

40 is rather high - the last Shurflo I bought was 20 psi

There is a variable pressure cut-out on Shurflo pumps - the info is on the paper instruction leaflet supplied. I think it's a small screw, but I haven't had to do it myself. To reduce the flow, have you got aerators on all the taps (if that's the right term - they mix air in with the water to reduce usage). They are a statutory requirement in some countries, including Spain. You could put a tap in-line and set it to restrict the pressure if you wanted to but the cut out pressure would be the same and the accumulator would still start out with water at 40 psi.

Or can you get the dealer to swap it for a 20 psi version? Maybe you gave the dealer the correct part number, and he ordered the wrong item by mistake?

Mine is 40 psi, but I've seen 30 and 20psi ones, mine is not adjustable, but you can get different springs for the switches, which reduce the pressure, or raise it of course.

This is a pressure water system I presume? In that case the pressure refers only to the pressure sensitive switch that swithes the pump on and off as pressure is created and relieved by closing and opening taps. This has no bearing on water flow which will be shown as the pump output. It simply means the pump must pressurise the system to 40psi before it switches off. If you have a calorifier it will probably blow the safety valve unless this is also rated for more than 40 psi.

I have fitted a standard domestic pressure switch available from any plumbers merchants or asap etc cost about a tenner it is adjustable so you can get the best pressure on / off for you.

yes your e right, its the water flow rate that is relevant . the new pump was originally bought as a deckwash pump but little used , now i have fitted it as the supply pump for fresh water. the shurflow was corroded ,badly inside so its u/s ,. so i just need to slow down the delivery rate to stop the teenagers from emptying the tanks while they brush their teeth !
