My friend and skipper has just passed away and I've taken over the boat maintenance. The fresh water pump is running too long, as if it's not cutting out. can this be repaired or do i replace ? it's a Gibsae 36 from mid 80s. The pump is SUPERFLUSSO S12 FIAMMA. Any advice appreciated ! Also replacing the pawls on the winches has created a bit of a problem. There is so much wear I can't read the winch name, think it is "deux something" ending in ses !!! with 16 on it. Anyone know where I'd get parts ?

welcome KCC.

I'm sorry to hear of your friend's final departure, and hope that you continue to enjoy the boat in remembrance of him.

Do you have an accumulator (a pressure tank) in the water system ?

Is there a leak in the pipework, or a tap that has been left open ?

Does air (as bubbles) come out of the tap when open ?

Could just be air in the system which we get every time the tank runs empty. Bleeding is a fairly simple procedure. Open all taps hot and cold, shower etc and allow water to flow. Starting with the outlet furthest from the tank, switch off one outlet at a time working your way backwards. This should purge air from the system and allow it to pressurise to a point where the pressure switch will stop the pump. Occasionally has to be repeated in order to get the last of the air out.

Good luck.

and when all the obvious things have failed look for the pressure valve and replace that.

In a FW pump on a boat that age they're usually built-in so it's frequently ditch the whole lot.

The pump is Italian (I suspect the whole assembly is), Fiamm are a big 1st tier supplier to Fiat: try their site www.fiamm.com; alternatively have a look for a replacement Jabsco unit on www.jabsco.com/products/marine/index.htm.

Replacements are available for web order, from jabscoshop.

Can't help with the winch, but at a wild guess try looking at the Goiot range, I think Gibsea were fitting mainly their equipment at that time www.goiot.com.

Bonne chance!!

Many thanks to you all ! I will look at all these options asap as I'm not too sure what the problem with the pump is. I suspect replacing it may be the best option, but at least I now know where to look for problems and replacements. Thanks eveyone
