fresh water mussels

How the hell do fresh water mussels manage to get through the water intakes on a volvo 270 outdrive leg.

I have heard of this problem. Had a friend with a water intake problem on a 290 outdrive. A crab grew in the intake pipe whilst boat not used and then too big to exit!

Same with mussels , they get in when they're really small and just forget to move out before they grow

If you reverse the water pump with the engine running for about 20 mins they come out a treat. Just add a bit of garlic and white wine.

Easy solution to that problem /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif sell up , buy big boat , bugger off to cruise and don't tell them where /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've had it suggested that a bit of time in salt water kills them off and then some brick cleaner removes the shells as they dissolve.
