My Jabsco cold water pump has had intervals of three hours before "taking up the slack".

But, occasionally, this reduce to one minute. Both of these periods are without demands.

I finally traced the problem to back leakage through the Whale foot pump which is in parallel with the Jabsco.

I assume that dirt has left the tank and caused the non-return valve to leak.

What does the forum recommend for a pre-pump filter? Should/could this perform the purifying task as well?

When we replaced the pump and then the diaphragm thingie I decided to install a filter in the line. Used the Jabsco with replaceable element. Been very pleased with it.

Also have one of these on the inlet side of the pump. And installed an inline valve to isolate the water tank - proved to be a very good idea. Don't have to empty the tank to work on the system or turn up to find 300 litres of water in the bilges when something goes. The value of experience.....

Check the fitting, threaded or push on before you buy! Ask me why?
