Dear All. Looking to sail across to Dieppe / Fecamp soon. I have no Navtex, nor do I speak any French. What sources of weather info are available to me? (Can only think of Radio 4 shipping forecast on LW, using Mobile phone to call UK & rely on friends (or call a premium rate service with recorded channel forecast), or pop into nearest Marina & hope forecast is pinned up on noticeboard in English)
Thanks

If you can get to the web (noteboook/mobile), http://www.meteo.fr/meteonet_en/temps/activite/mer/cotes/cot.htm# is OK, sea areas are in French, but with terms like Beaufort thrown in it's pretty decipherable.

my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Try my website http://www.stronge.org.uk

which also has a PDA optimised page.

On the PDA page you have WCS marine weather and Windfinder Wind Prediction Charts, both of which cover the French inshore forecasts. Also, you have the met.office shipping forecast at only 4 kilobytes which is great for mobiles.

On the homepage you have the shipping forecast, WeatherWeb Sailing forecasts, WeatherOnline forecasts, GFS synoptic and wind prediction charts and the Windfinder charts too.

The Windfinder has text forecasts of the french inshore which can be translated fairly easily to English using babelfish. I may incorporate this into my website at some stage.

Good cruising
