French maps

For exploring ashore. Please remind me what the equivalent of our OS series is and what's a good supplier ?

Newsagents and tourist offices are full of maps, but make sure it is not a motoring one as they only show the roads.

Really wanted to get them in advance. Prefer scale of app. 1: 50,000 or 1:25,000 for on foot.

I think IGN is the equivalent of our OS. They have a 1:25,000 series which can get here http://www.themapshop.co.uk/francewalk.htm
I've dealt with them in person and always found them helpful. I've never dealt with them by phone or email so I don't know what their delivery is like

Yes, IGN and very good they are too. At scales of 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. The whole country is covered on a grid, but they also do popular areas (like OS).

Good, but not as good as OS. IGN website here . They do electronic maps which will work on some plotters.
