French Canals

I took my Sadler 32 to Spain via Biscay, Portugal, Gib. etc. - tis all full up - want to come back via the French Canals, any help from anyone thats done it is most welcome. Keel is fin and and around 1.7m. Interested in mast transport by overland to reduce draft.

Is that Trough, plough or through?

One of my earlier boats came through the Canal du Midi. It drew 5 ft 9 inches and reportedly ploughed a furrow (or trough) all the way. This was in summer time, when the levels can be quite low.

A friend made the passage north from Marseille (?) in springtime, when levels were nearly 4 metres higher than normal. He eventually turned back, unable to make progress against the current.

Message is: depth depends when you go.
