French Canals near Niort

Has any reader any experience of the canals from la Rochelle to Niort via Coulon ?
I am moving near this area in the near future, and wondered about keeping my 23' sloop ( draught 2'6") there.
I will not have much time to sail in the first year, as I will be busy on the house.
I thought if this area is navigable from the sea, I could bring her in and find a berth for her for the forthcoming winter. It would save the expense of a road trailer .
Alternatively does anyone know of a good reasonable boat yard near La Rochelle or L'Argullion sur Mer.

Don't think you will get there by canal, have a look at -

La Rochelle offers a low season discount to just over £100 for a 37 footer, full price was £150?? pcm. I am refering to the "old" harbour in the town. Access between the two towers.
If you're interested, I can ask a friend of mine who kept his boat there for a while quite recently.
