French boating advice required!

Off on a Caravan holiday in two weeks, and just bought a little 2.4metre Bombard inflatable and 2.5hp Four stroke Mercury to do a little holiday boating in.

Question is, what do I need in order to take it on French inland waterways such as Rivers, Canals or Lakes?

I gather the sub 6hp engine precludes any qualifications, but do they have river licences like the Thames and Canals in the UK?
