Freeze Ban Anti Freeze

it says it is non toxic antifreeze for boats & caravans with fresh water systems, will protect down to -15C, its safe, odourless & tasteless, recommendation for use 50/50 in fresh water installation consisting of water pumps, water heaters, hand basins, sink & shower.

Has anyone used this thro the domestic system ?

What do you think ?

I still intend to drain my system but was thinking if this was added when tank is almost empty & it was pumped thro, it would give some added protection ???

We've put Freeze Ban into our fresh water system today. Bought 10 litres. To avoid draining down the calorifier I diluted the Freeze Ban at 25%, rather than the 50% suggested, making 40 litres of the solution which was just enough. Our boat is out of the water for the winter and despite a small heater being left on in the aft cabin I had a concern about residual water freezing in low level pipes.

I disconnected the hose leading from the tank to the pump, and fed the solution into the system from a bucket.

We'll have to wait until the spring before I know how successful it's been.

I used it last year with good results and so i have used it again this year, saves draining the system and disconnecting the pump etc.

But you still drain it out and flush the system in the spring ? You dont drink the stuff do you?

It's common practice in the USA to use non-toxic (pink) antifreeze in the drained water system. You flush it out in the spring - it leaves no taste or odour.

Freeze Ban

Freeze Ban actually does leave a slight smell and taste in the water if you don't flush it out pretty well in the spring.
Don't put it in your hot water tank or fresh water holding tanks or it will your water will take on the smell/taste for a pretty long time.
Drain the holding tanks and hot water heater and short circuit the hot water heater plumbing.
In the spring, leave the hot water heater plumbing shorted while you flush the system with copious amounts of water.
I also remove the filter cartridge from the water system in winter mode.
I have used both the freeze ban and the ban frost products for quite a few years with good results.
The temps here only really get down to the 20's to 30's * F in January or so.
