Freeward 25

Same hull as a Fisher 25 so long keel and heavy. SLoop rigged iirc so sails better than one would expect but no light wind greyhound!

Very capable for its size.

There used to be one in Chichester marina; the only one I came across out on the 'oggin was slow to the point of ludicrous under sail, it might be nice to think of being in a strong fortress-like boat but I got the impression it wouldn't be able to dodge waves, let alone weather systems.

Would be nice on the French canals given a big modern engine - and that's not meant to be rude, could be lovely, ideal for that trip with the relatively shallow draft, also pootling around the South Coast or Med'; but I think I'd want that big modern engine.

Here is a page about the Freeward 25 from the Fisher Range catalogue in 1977 :

And here (for general reference and comparison) are the pages re the Fisher 25 ketch, and the Potter 25 :

No experience of a Freeward 25, however I did see a Potter 25 alongside Poole town quay many moons ago, and just thought that she was lovely. Not very practical for cruising perhaps, but she just appealed. She was the 4 berth version, where there was a tiny cabin with 2 bunks in the 'fish-hold' amidships, in addition to two bunks in the rather small fo'c's'le.

The base price for a new Freeward 25 in 1977 was GBP 16,690; the price for the Fisher 25 was GBP 18,440, while the Potter 25 Daysailer (with the same ketch rig as the Fisher) was GBP 13,130.
