Freeview reception on board

Anyone got any advice on which (if any!) are best aerials for reception of digital freeview on my mobo? I've got a Sony freeview box i can use. Currently use the existing UHF (round thing- can't remember the make) but's it's about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

it really depends on where you are ?

I have used a chipo in London and got a really good recption allthough I had to meve the aerial about a bit.

we use a Glomax (round thing) and it's OK most of the time, but it does depend on where you are in the country. There's another round thing with a spike on top, but I think they're very similar. Apart from the spike.

You may have to rewire the ariel - you need sheilded co-ax rather than just the normal one. I had crap reception until I changed it, now it's perfect.

You can get different versions of the Glomex (flying saucer thingy) even from the same manufacturer - the normal one is marginal with digital, but you can get much better ones (at much higher prices ) which amplify the signal much further, and thus work better.

ah, I thought that was more to do with how many sets you wanted to drive from it, but it would make sense...

Many thanks for the info guys, I will be using it along south coast (Brighton to Torquay. The existing coax is the original (10yrs old now) so I'll rewire as well.

Small area, then? Won't work at all in Poole or Weymouth, if I remember...

Had exactly the same problem. Glomex and that other one thats even more expensive are useless we've found with Freeview. However 19.99 internal aerial frome Maplins, the one with the circular band, 2 x extending stick aerials and a built in booster is fantastic. Needs a long coaxial cable on it though as you have to trail about a bit to get best reception. On our boat on the "dashboard" front of inside helm position seems to work really well in most places, even in Poole. Have it fixed up to a Philips freeview box which has an aerial siting function on it that shows strength & quality of signal. Channels 23 & 28 are the ones for all the mainstream channels plus loads of others. Paul

Installed a Triax UFO aerial (omni) from www.cpc.co.uk and use this with Sony Freeview for excellent pictures in Torquay marina. Even at low tide no sound or audio break-ups/freezing. Comes with it's own amplifier but used original aerial's downlead.
