Hi People,

Ive posted before but quite a while ago.
I have a Freeman 30 (1968) with wooden topsides.

Some time before christmas i had a carpenter in to repair a small amount of rot.. and hey presto we ended up ripping out most of the wooden topsides due to rot.

She still needs extensive work.. (some of wheel shelter building and interior completely refitting)

Unfortuanately my wood skills are limited and am in a difficult position.

Does anyone know of any 'reasonable' carpenters within working distance of Maylandsea in Essex.. (where she is on hard standing).

This may be like clutching for a pink elephant but any serious help or suggestions would be appreciated.

regards,

Nick

I believe there is a good "real boatyard" at Woodbridge on the River Deben. Not sure of name. If you plug in Tidemill Yacht Harbour into Google it will give you a website for the Deben which I believe includes a link to this yard. The Broads have a number of classic boat restorers. Don't forget to say the year, in addition to the date, that you want the work completed!!!

I used to have an aft cockpit Freeman 30 with 2 x VP V8 petrols. Even with this it was max', and very uneconomical, 12 kts. Most had the Ford diesels which were a better match that gave a realistic cruising speed of 9 kts.

Good luck with the restoration. Nice boat.
