Not really, unless I catch many :-)

Went to a hook and cook talk last weekend, the main theme was around trawling a line behind you when you sailed, the one question that I wish I had asked but didn't occur at the time was what about dangers of fouling the propeller with the line?

Is this an issue with the cheap fishing/trawling lines available from force4? (as i bought some from there straight after): http://www.force4.co.uk/fladen-mackerel-trolling-set.html#.VP9kzvmsX40

Thanks
Gord

Only if you either have a self-propelled lure or you sail one of those Thai boats with the prop on a scaffold pole fifteen feet behind the boat :)

Its happened to me plenty of times, Your rod bends double for a split second, snaps the line. Just stop the engine, pull your lure in snap cut the line as close to the prop as you can , retie the lure re cast and untangle the line round the prop next time its out the water.

Just make sure you only let the line out when the boat is moving through the water. The line will enter the water many yards behind the stern. Asit happens there is an article on fishing from a yacht on the web site below.

Never had a problem. To trol behind the boat yopu either need a paravane or a lure that is designed to imitate a fish , some diving, others splashing on the surface. Either way the lure will be a long way behind your prop or the fish wont want to know. If you stop it will stop too. Likely it will then sink but it certainly wont motor up behind you.

Its a non problem. More of a problem is how to catch other than mackerel.

Had some lovely sardines last year off Falmouth. Barbecued they were brilliant
