Only one lock on self service and three manned.Bitterly cold and uneventful run down from Penton to Teddington, taking around 3 hour.Rescued by lockeeper at Moleseley due to being a bit premature to open lock gates.
Stopped at a totally deserted Hampton Court before spending night above lock.
Decent meal at the Tides End.
Six am departure with just about sufficient light to navigate.
Unbelieveably encountered several sets of rowers out on a freezing Feb morning at 7am.All were sporting those little flashing high intensity strobe type lights, very easy to spot and slow up.
Soon retreated down below from Fly as various bits of body stopped responding.
Easy flat run thorough virtually deserted, city centre, two hours after leaving pass St Kats.
After barrier decided that now would be very good time indeed to find out if a few years on the Thames had caused any fuel problems.
Straight up to 2000 rpm and a nice 16/17 knots with ebbing tide.Stayed there for rest of journey.
My fastest run ever down to Gravesend and whatever awaited.
More or less exactly as predicted :( by all the weather forecasts.
Boat performed superbly, have always liked the Turbo 36 and now having been out in one in inclement weather,my interest in getting one or its stablemate the Sedan 36 has increased.
Few very minor niggles that need sorting but a very straight boat at a very good price.Goes to show what you can get if you haggle a bit.
Somebody looking at my boat on Wednesday and Turbo 36 has just come on the market at Gillingham Marina.H,mmm :)
Poor old Chris last seen heading back to Penton to collect his car.

The really good news was the wipers all worked and none of the windows leaked.
What more can you ask for ? :)
Did notice several sunken boats on way down.

Re: Free at last......Chris and Julies new boat.

Really can't thank Fred enough for all he's done.
Somewhere in the region of Four weekends written off, numerous evenings researching, crack of dawn weather checks... not to mention an insanely early start this morning perched out in that bone-chilling north easterly.
And that's not even starting on all the mechanical advice, wading through electronics manuals... the list goes on.
Anyway, I got a few snaps of the trip, I'll do a write-up and put a post up when I've caught up on some sleep and can see straight!

Re: Free at last......Chris and Julies new boat.

Interesting run in good company.
As for leaving the keys for the car parked at Cuxton safely in the car at Penton Hook.:):)

Great that you got it home safely. Worth waiting to get a half decent trip.
Took delivery of mine on Thursday and now have to do your trip in reverse.

Hope you have many happy hours aboard
Dave

Merely a security measure! :o

Thanks Dave, and that's excellent news!
I did mean to message you Thursday to see how it went but must admit I got caught up constantly checking weather forecasts etc.
Glad it all went well for you, and hope you have as good a trip upriver.
Having now raised/lowered the arch "in anger," one thing we found was that with it down, access becomes a bit tricky from lower helm to the fly and the side decks, although you'll have no problem stepping over it on the stbd side straight on to the fly steps.
I can't see you having any problems at all raising and lowering it, it does get heavy though if you're lifting it repeatedly on your own!

Best of luck with your trip round, and if you decide to take a break in the Medway, RCC has visitor moorings http://www.rochestercc.co.uk/index_files/Page541.htm or pm Fred above.
Hopefully see you soon!

Re: Free at last......Chris and Julies new boat.

Just had look at the details and internal photos of the T36 on the market locally.
Where to start.....................
Very very early boat with the smaller engines.
Engines have definately seen more than a few sea miles..
That dark wood interior.
Interesting collection of different carpet and upholstery options depending on cabin location.
Nav gear out of Noahs ark.
Optimistically priced even with the reduction.
Will probably not now be picking up the phone on this one, there are around 35 T36 on the "News Now" website and many more on other websites, the search goes on.

Perfect boat.......NO outd??????s

.........But only if it came with the lump of lard that's needed so you can grease yourself up to get to all those inaccessible engine parts:)

Great report Murv, glad you made it back to where you belong:)

Re: Free at last......Chris and Julies new boat.

Thanks all :)

Luckily I have the lard built-in for access, but as there are no outdrives, it won't ever break down :D
