Just delivered a boat from St Jean de Losne to Beaucaire, surprised to see quite a few changes since I last made the trip, so for those who may be interested:-
St Jean de Losne – You either love it or hate it, it’s still the same.
Seurre – to me a new Port de Pleasance – electricity, water etc. all there and a very helpful Captain – I’d certainly stay there again.
Chalon sur Saone – all very different, a new captain and absolute chaos, very different from previously. Now off my list.
Macon Marina – all new and very good. But expensive compared to other places.
Lyon. The new marina at Confuence. All very new and a bit disorganised. Being right in the centre of a new shopping complex (huge) it is very noisy but secure, which is a great improvement from the past.
Les Roches de Condrieu – Much of it new this year, only stopped for fuel but would certainly consider it for an overnight stop or perhaps even longer.
Valence – no change.
Viviers – Super, is certainly on my list of future overnight stops, I even intend driving there for a much better look as the place certainly deserves it.

Viviers was one of our favourite stops on our voyage through the French canals last summer as well. We filmed this for an episode of the Distant Shores sailing TV series. When we arrived in Viviers we felt as if we'd crossed a line and were now in the Mediterranean. The light seemed different, the atmosphere more relaxed, and the food had a definite Mediterranean flare. The old town is nice to explore.
