France on the UK quarantine list will catch many out ?

I’m guessing lots of UK boats will hve to bail out of France ASAP and the cost of flights, ferries, trains, etc. is going through the roof

Perhaps it’s the right decision but it was still telegraphed poorly

Safe passage to all of those forced to sail at short notice.

Or alternatively, continue and quarantine at home for 14 days. Hardly a serious imposition for many, I imagine, especially the retired.
I do agree for many who have to return to work or get kids to school it is a problem., but not as bad as the full lockdown we have just come through.

Worse things happen at sea ... and in the middle of the country where we've just had 300 confirmed cases at a major employer in Northampton and over twenty "hot spots" identified in the county in the last week

Suspect this is less prevalent than imagined. What would I say tell people at work, friends, relatives, squash partner, etc. ?

And if I subsequently infected them or god forbid worse, where would that lead?

Is there a real difference in the number of cases in the usual yotty haunts in, say, Brittany and those in the Solent or West Country?

Not that I have any intention of doing so - but I believe I can visit to uk 'hotspots' without hindrance

I'm now waiting for all the tragic stories of people whose lives have been ruined by the announcement. Sorry, sympathy error 404; I've been expecting this announcement for a few weeks.

We had plans to visit my wife's Dad in a couple of weeks because he's 101 and in precarious health, but thought it better to wait until closer to the time to book. No it looks as though we won't be going for a bit unless something untoward happens. If it does, then we'll take our chances and isolate at home afterwards, though I'll be the first to admit it'll be easier for us than for many.

They created their own problem by not understanding they could be locked down or have to face quarantine anywhere. If not prepared to get stuck somewhere then stay in country of residence.

Silly them. They probably believed Grant Shapps (aka Michael Green) when he announced the countries which were exempted from the quarantine provisions.

Indeed, they made the decision in the afternoon but waited until 10pm to announce it as a favour to their mates in the Newspaper industry.

I view exemptions as only valid at the time of announcement, which could change (as we've seen) at a few hours notice. Could be even more restrictions when winter weather and coughs and sneezes arrive to spread the virus.

Half the population take little notice of any of the restrictions now so they might as well not bother. Really increasing fines for not wearing masks is utterly pointless if no one polices it. What will be will be at everyone's loss.
