Looks like the half term break might not be such a disaster after all. Will be heading out on our first trip to Fowey on Thursday and plan to stay a couple of nights. (Any forum members to look out for in Fowey?)

About to find the harbour web-site and dig out the almanac, but thought I would ask if there are any tips or recommendations from the panel? Are the natives friendly?

Thanks

Rick

Long time since I've been there but seem to recall it's a fairly easy access. No marina there but I expect you already know that.

Lovely little town.

Weather looking fantastic in the SW toward the end of this week so it should be ideal. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You will need to go on one of the pontoons that are in the river, the harbour master seems to think that only yachts should go on the buoys.

Lock your dinghy and anything else securely. When the Russian china clay ships are in town, anything that isn't bolted down may disappear. Ignore the pillock harbour master if he objects to your locks.

Fowey's a lovely place. Never had one bit of trouble. The enterance is very deap. Even cruise liners visit. Best to find a pontoon early'ish, in order to pick the best spot. Water taxi's available, if expencive. Dinghy to town pontoon. Shops/pubs/resteraunts.

Fowey is lovely and we moored fore and aft on buoys with our P42.

Watch out for kamikaze`seagulls in the town though. Also some [--word removed--] let the floor of our tender down.

Personally I find Fowey better than Salcombe due to pubs, shops etc. but then I am not a kid. Mum ......
Normally end up moored in Polruan & use dinghy. Never had any problems and would expect harbour master to sort out if they did occur !!

But lets face it, it's only a hop skip and a jump between Torquay, Salcolmbe and Fowey. You can do the lot in a day, or leasurely over two or three days. Tend to visit every where in Devon and Cornwall in a week. Given a fortnight. Sheesh!! It's half way round the world!!
