Already mentioned on here quite a while ago is Sam's. Great place, no bookings so you have to wait but its worth it. Not over priced, good food, great atmosphere, good service. Haven't eaten anywhere else in Fowey that comes near, but I haven't tried them all. I have tried some that fall well short. I hear they have opened a new restaurant at Polkerris, which seems a bit out of the way so could be wrong but going to check it out this week I hope.

Yes, Sam's is fine; more pub-food than gourmet. We turned up dripping wet in full oilies for lunch and were made welcome. I think our scallops & salad was about £14/person, though cheaper dishes on the menu. There were quite a few children around who seemed happy enough too. If you want gourmet (my style) buy some splits at the baker's and have for tea with jam & clotted cream while sitting in the cockpit watching the Wednesday evening races.

Fowey eateries

I have not written on this forum previously and restaurants are I think subjective, but here goes.
We were there about month ago, on a Saturday night. We had planned to eat in Sam's but I knew from past experiences that it was likely to be crowded, which it was (at 19.45). They now have a system whereby you can wait in their cocktail bar (which also has extra tables), having placed your order first (compulsory). We were told it would be about one hour minimum, so decided to go elsewhere as we had a hungry teenager to feed, as well as ourselves.
A few metres along the main street we found The Commodore which in past years was what I would describe as a 'chicken and chips joint'. It has moved upmarket and now it has mainly Italian style dishes. We were more than satisfied with the food, the prices and the service.

Having said all that Sam's is still my first choice although there are several other good restaurants in Fowey.

note:Sam's has a website www.samsfowey.co.uk
