Looking at upgrading very soon and this has poped up, are there any owners out there that can comment on the Volvo 5.7 engine and the overall qaulity of these crafts ?
LandlockedPirate had a 2000 Model with a 5.7 Volvo in it. I cruised in company extensively and the boat and engine were fantastic. I am sure he will be along soon to tell you about it but I would recomend the boat.
Hi we owned one of these from new in 2000, ours had the 5.7Gsi with Duoprop leg. Over 4 years of ownership we had no problems with the boat at all, and only a minor issue with the engine (leg trim stopped working).
Performance was great with 40kts new and about 36kts at WOT in cruising trim (Lots of gear and 4 aboard). I can't remember GPH figures but we got about 2.5 MPG at 26kts.
I liked the cabin arrangement because the door was set to one side and this allowed a better entrance to the large berth under the cockpit. Good heads for a boat of that size with a usable shower.Cabin was large (But not as large as tardis like Bayliner 2655) Excellent camper canvas with loads of combinations for every occasion. We loved the cockpit layout with seating for 3 on the helm and 5 could sit round the table easily. Sunpad conversion and bow sunpads were excellent in the Med. Huge bathing platform gave loads of space for tender and still move about safely.
We cruised all over with the boat, From Scotland to the Solent, Channel Islands, France, Spain and the Balearics. Longest single trip was Barcelona to Menorca @ 140 miles. Decent hull, safe even in nasty wind over tide chop but nothing special. In certain rough conditions it could ship quite a lot of water over the bow, never enough to worry me though, just a little wet.
Over all a great boat, happy to answer any specific questions.
