Hi all,

As per my other thread I am in process of getting boat serviced and youv'e all been a great help so far!

I need a new wiper motor assembly for my 195 sundowner (1997).

Have contacted Essex boat yard as they are Four Winns agent, but they say few days to quote then few weeks to deliver direct from America.

Is there an alternative motor I could use or does anyone know ehere I could source one? Even a car one that was similar might do I thought so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again all Francis!

There is a design fault, as I found on my Sundowner; any salt water that gets past the seal drips onto one of the terminals which is in a little depression in the case and it corrodes away. I stripped mine down and replaced the terminal (I used a 1/4" terminal, the type that is screwed onto ignition coils, the original is narrower than 1/4" so the connector was changed as well).

Hi Graham, my wiper goes up the window then sits there and wont come back down without a push, does that sound the same as yours?

Thanks again Francis

From memory (3 years ago) mine stopped working completely. The motor is quite easy to take apart/ reassemble. If you can't mend it, at least you can temporaarily seal off the hole until you get a new one.

Saw inside the motor gearbox today and the teeth are sheared, also the mechanic said the motor bushes are on their way out. It could be fixed, but rather change it if I can I think.

Thanks for advice though and if I cant get original one its good to know it can be repaired!

I must admit I never used mine, I only found it was not working during a pre-season check ! I've not used it "in anger " since I mended it, but I check it still works each year!

I use the boat off Anglesey, almost as bad as Ireland! I had to wear a wetsuit one morning to take our dog for a walk in the horizontal rain/ F8 summer breeze. I'm tough though and always stand up when driving the boat ( to spot high visibility matt black pot markers just under the water surface), so if it rains my face and head gets (very) wet, it doesn't matter about the water on the screen !

Similar experiences myself, but its hard to beat keeping dry when on a familiar and calm stretch of water! Bet the brickies in Anglesey are'nt likle the ones in Ireland who head to the pub instead of the building site if they feel a spit of rain! Impressive! haha

Right, got in touch with Lake Windermere Four winns UK parts supplier today after no joy from Essex Boat Yard and think iv'e got some progress.

They had 1 motor in stock, identical to mine to look at. Scott theyr'e mechanic said there are 2 lengths of shaft 50mm and 65mm and 4 degree settings 85, 100, 110 and 120 degree.

The motor they have is a 65mm/ 110 degree item.

My motor is a 65mm. Having trouble working out what degree it is though?

Inside the motor gearbox case on the cog face is 4 holes, the crank is connected with a pin into 1 of these holes. Each hole is marked as follows 89, 100, 110 and 120. My crank is connected to hole 89.

I know this is extremely tedious information, but does that mean that the degree can be adjusted by simply swapping the crank into a different hole?

If this is the case, then all I should have to do when I receive the new motor is pop the back off the gearbox and swap the crank setting to 89, fit to boat and bingo problem solved!

Anyone know for sure though as iv'e ordered it now! Thanks again

having had to a wiper motor change, and having a manual with the new motor, the change in angle is done by changing the spigot hole to give a range from 60 to 110 degrees. Best way is to test it in situ with the back off so that you can play. Mine says it is sent from the factory at 110 degrees and autoparks to the right
