The hunt is now back on for the next boat. Have been looking at S37s and S34s. Dont slate me i like Sealines. Budget is around 100k. I have three questions which i would appreciate opinions on please.
1. 1998-2000 S37 or 2000-2002 S34?
2. How much could i expect someone to drop at that price?
3. Engine choice if S34 AD41 or KAD32?
Cheers

Interested to know what jezbanks said to the broker, seeing as how I walked away from there after looking at a couple of boats they had for sale...

Good luck in the search for the new boat though. I assume they haven't got anything of interest to you at the moment ??

AD 41 anyday, s 37 should not be a problem shop around and get the bigger boat with right engines, 41 has loads more torque and a lot more reliable.

A 6 pot engine will always be nicer than a four. I would guess the KAD would be underpowered anyway on an S34 . A friend had KAD43s in his, and that seemed quite a nice package with top end of around 38Kts.

I think there s some sensible talk and some grandiose talk about price drop. In the end, you need to know the boats and assess the market. Pay what you want to pay, and forget about whether its 5pct, or 25pct lower. Buy the boat you want. Only the seller knows where he will sell, just as only you know what you will pay. If you have anything in common, hopefully, you ll own your next boat. The rest of us are rather bystanders in the discussions.
To put it another way. I m sure you wouldnt buy a crap boat just bcz you got 15pct off, but maybe you d happily pay a sensible asking price for a great boat.

Good advice! If the boat is genuinely good,a fair price and you like it, as they say " nothings for nothing". But in the final analysis, it's really down to how you feel ?

Hi David,

Really pleased to here you have a deposit on the boat. Now the really exciting bit starts, hunting for the next one!!!!!

I would be inclinded to go for the later S34 - but that is just my opinion. If you do, go for the bigger AD 41's, or if you can find them KAD43's. I shant bore you with things to look for as they are well documented round these parts - but it is worth gettin gthe hull of any prospective purchase thouroughly surveyed.

Statement "but it is worth getting the hull of any prospective purchase thouroughly surveyed."

Sensitive translation in order not to provoke a "Fatwah" from Sealine owners on Jez...Sealine are not famous for the build quality of their hulls. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cracking advice, I second that! I also used to own a Sealine S34 with KAD 32s. Top end speed was about 26 to 27 knots and cruised at 23k. I always felt the engines were underpowered and would definitely advise you to go for the bigger engine option. I think you will sell a bigger engine boat a little easier compared with the 32s. We enjoyed the Sealine but changed to the Targa 34 for better sea keeping and a sportier boat.

We pulled out of the purchase of a Sealine (1993) because of a "hull" issue.
Get a good surveyour who knows sports cruisers!

Interesting statement Sneddon!

This is not the first time I've heard of hull issues on Sealine's !
Are there particular models to avoid or does it refer to all?

Especially if you select the larger engine option on the S34

Never heard of an S28 with problems.

If I remember rightly that reviewer favoured the KAD32's for the S34, being a better fit in the engine bay and kinder on the hull. As a "Sportscruiser" the emphasis for the S34 is "Cruiser" rathan than "Sports"
