Hi all,

After meeting a few of you at the London Boat Show, myself and Natalie have been toying with the idea of organising a YBW forum social event later in the year so we can meet more of you. We thought some time in April might work, just before everyone gets busy with the new season and attending all the big racing events.

Is it something you'd be interested in?

Please complete the following form to specify your preferred location and date: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rOaXrnoEBbYwpVB9xHE6y93mAx14uK09u2EGGrMl8YI/viewform?usp=send_form

Cheers

May I point out that this is in addition to our already arranged event in North Wales? This will be held at the Royal Welsh Yacht Club, Porth yr Aur on Saturday 25th April 2015. There will be a Chef cooked meal at around £10-15 per head (details below) and we have negotiated a discount at the Victoria Dock marina.

Further details below;

Ah the midlands - that well known boating location.

It would be difficult to come up with anywhere further from the sea!

Given the number of people who met up at LIBS I would have thought London or the Solent were more realistic contenders.

Hey, give us land-locked people a break :D

Is it not simple have one in the midlands ,then one when sibs is on and one when libs is on .r

Ha ha ha , not often I get the opportunity for a laugh during the working day. Not sure if can get my boat to the Midlands from the Solent.

Hi all,

Despite receiving more than 100 responses to the initial poll about whether people would attend a social, I've only had nine to this one so it's quite hard for me to settle on a date based on this.

If you're genuinely interested in coming, could you please respond specifying a date in April that works for you. Unfortunately, if I don't get a bit more interest then I might have to knock the idea on the head as I don't really have to time to look into a venue/organising something, if only a handful can come.

I suspect there are flaws in your data. Either that or you've just discovered that design by committee doesn't work very well.

For sheer number of boats in the water I suspect the south coast and in particular the Solent will win by a country mile. Add to that the fact that London is 90 minutes away and so anyone from the London area will see the South Coast as their local boating venue I am struggling a bit to see how the Midlands would work. As has been pointed out unless you own a narrow boat you're going to struggle. I don't think Waterways World - a fine publication, is even in the Time inc. publications stable.

The hard work has already been done for you. Garry Wiggins of this parish saw pretty strong numbers at his last social gathering at the end of last year and there have been a number of events leading up to that one which established a body of attendees. I for one wouldn't have a problem with you guys muscling in on that success providing you added a bit of value and spread the office love.

Yes, I wholeheartedly acknowledge that by going the South Coast route you marginalise those forum participants who aren't close by and geographically the South Coast isn't the closest point on the map to everyone but at this stage you have to play to the numbers. By all means as things progress try spreading your wings but even the big boat show organisers had to admit defeat when it came to Midlands based exhibitions. We are seeing some regional gatherings now which is great and it would be lovely to see an annual joining of hands at some point but even then I can see it gravitating to the South Coast / Solent area where the boating infrastructure is strong and lots of members have boats.

I did cast my vote in the initial poll, sadly I fail on 2 counts. Geography and month. Given it's Easter the draw of sunny climes is just too strong. That and the ladyboys :)

I do hope you can manage to organise something and add to what has already been started on here but I don't think the current plan is going to work.

Henry :)
