Forum re-enactment of Benjamin West \"Death of Nelson\"

I note there is to be a re-enactment of the death of nelson at the forthcoming festivities, which i must say sounds a bit macabre really.

But anyway, i think we could do a much better job. The job of nelson will be quite attractive - especially the getting chucked into a barrel of brandy.

However, I think i will take the position of skippering the other ship reversing into the Victory with the big smoky diesels running. Anyone else fancy taking part?

I've seen Nelson's jacket (took a party of French schoolchildren round it once) and I can tell you we need someone of very modest stature to stand in for the great man and be pumped full of lead by the French marksman on the yardarm. Any suggestions who?

ps do you see that very small and scruffy looking West Highland Terrier just about to take a lump out of Hardy's arse? I thought that could be played by Russel Crowe if Nelson isn't suitable.

gotta be jimi.

Also, except in oil paintings, Nelson actually DID wear a crappy green fleece most of the time AND he never ever washed his boat either. PLUS the stupid hat as well. So, very appropriate.

Tut tut, I suspect that TCM has made an error ! Can this be a real TCM post?

I had always believed that Victory rammed the bow of the Frenchie ( at the grand old speed of 2 knots) .. thereby swinging her around and the English gunners firing off the broadsides. About this time is when old Horatio got it in the shoulder ( I think!).

Anyway on this basis I volunteer to helm 'The Victory', having had recent experience at such manouvres. I will of course not be using any modern aids such as air horns and flag signals will be replaced by rapid waving of arms.

To those sailors who I have noted aattempting to emulate H Nelson through pickling thier bodies with brandy, I would respectfully point out that in his case the pickling happened AFTER his death.
