Sorry everyone, we've had some other work jump the queue and we'll need to postpone rolling in the new software until later next week. More news when I have it.

***

Hi everyone,

Forum temporary closure Monday 14 June

Advanced notice that this forum will be unavailable to use for a good part of next Monday 10 June starting 0930. This is to enable us to perform a major upgrade of the software. We hope to have it back up and running by teatime latest, provided the migration goes as well as the tests indicate it should.

Please help us by (at the very least) recording your username accurately and, if you have kept a record, put your password somewhere obvious for you to log in after the big event. All of your salient details will be preserved but you will need to log in to the new system after it goes live.

You will be able to request a temporary password as long as you know your username on the new system (provided your email address is also up-to-date: check user options -- personal information to see if the email address we hold is still current).

If all else fails email ybw.com@ipcmedia.com but do bear with us if we take a little while to get back to you.

The new forums will look identical in terms of content and fairly familiar in terms of layout, but will have a series of changes including the ability to add polls to threads. We also hope to have eliminated the database errors we have been registering recently by making this switch.

Kim,

Will our private messages be preserved on the new system, or would it be prudent to back each one up?

I save many of mine for reference when someone sends a reply with contact info etc.

Has this function been tested?

Re: Forum temporary closure Monday 14 June

May I suggest you defer to July 14? Then at least it will be a holiday over here.

Re: Move

Thats interesting - the Scottish Ski season also begins on July 14th and the Cairngorms will be coverd in 2 metres of fresh snow on a firm base. The winds tend to drop to zero for months on end and it dusts the powder between the hours of 20:00 and 08:00. Over on the west coast we will be basking under cloudless skies in 12 knots of breeze.
Ah the wonders of macro environments

Re: Forum temporary closure Monday 14 June

One feature I would like to see in any upgrade is a more refined search function. eg where one can home in on a specific period without having to scroll back; also where one can add criteria eg both a poster's name and a topic.

A live chat function might also be fun.

Just a thought.

How about making it easier for people to post photographs, ie without them having to have a URL - as they say: one picture is worth a thousand words.

Not on a Monday now...

...had to delay it a bit. But it needs to be done. Unfortunately some of our data parcels are having near misses and crashes, so although they (fortunately) are not carrying 300 surnburnt British tourists in T-shirts and funny hats to a typical British summer's (wet) day it's time to do something about it...
