Sorry folks, I know there is still over 8 weeks to go, but this might take a little planning.

Last year, after the Scuttlebutt trip to Cherbourg a few boats went down to the Folly Inn near Cowes for a night. I was thinking it would be good to do this in the run up to Christmas, ie one Saturday night in December. Then I realised that it would be such a small minority of the forum, so thought that we could get others to hold other local gatherings on the same night. eg somewhere in Essex, another in Western Scotland etc.

What about those who are totally isolated from any other forumites, eg New Zealand, Brazil, Latvia, etc? Well there is nothing to stop you having a drink at the same time, is there?

So here is my suggestion -

1. Arrange as many gatherings of forumites as possible on Saturday 11th December. Somebody nominate a location in the local area, and others agree to go there. If you can arrive by boat then all the better !

2. With glasses previously charged, at 2000 UTC, say the following - "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Scuttlebutters/MoBoers/Forumites/Raggies/Stinkies* Everywhere!"
(* delete as you see fit)

3. If you are at another social gathering, eg office party or whatever, have a drink ready and say it anyway!

4. If you are at home, wherever you are in the world, you can join in too. 2000UTC remember - Early Sunday morning in Oz, NZ etc, or after lunch in the US, shouldn't be too much of a problem should it?

5. Post on here to say you did it, where you were, etc etc. Better still, if you can have somebody take a picture at the time, post that too, just to add to the effect.

6. We can then count up how many people sent each other Seasons Greetings at the same time.

Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or am I going off my rocker?

Looking forward to a night at the Folly - book you own berth on the pontoon!

So if Ohdrat and I are on a jetty at Kilmelford on Saturday 11th December, doubtless freezing, unable to see as it will be dark all day by then - how exactly do we then let the falorum know as the office will be shut and we won't be able to get on the internet so you won't know.
As it will be dark anyway - how will we know we are both there...can you supply us with a torch each?

<<<Early Sunday morning in Oz, NZ etc>>>

Sounds like a very good time to start drinking to me - a good excuse to start a couple of hours earlier than usual /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Fantastic idea - so it'll be a December Saturday morning at 0800hrs - here in Auckland we'll just be moving under the bimini to avoid the scorching sun as we have our champagne breakfasts. And in Wellington I'm sure they'll join in too, only difference is that they'll be clutching their glasses with both hands as a 60kt 'fresh breeze' blows in from the Cooke Straight!

'Cept we will be doing it on 12 Dec, Sunday morning as Nick says /forums/images/icons/smile.gif. So we all bottoms up together?

Had a calm weekend last weekend, highest gust in the marina was only 50 knots /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif.

Of course, Sunday morning, even better, we can toast the vicar as he comes aboard for morning prayers.

Had a cracking weekend in Kawau - joined the race from Gulf Harbour to Bon Accord Harbour in Aily's Comet but unforntunately was single-handed as Sharon still not feeling up to it. Cracking NW15kts, some beating and close reaching all the way, crossed the line not far behind a Farr38 (2nd) and a Townson 39 (3rd) but got knackered on handicap to get corrected placing at 11th out of 30 boats. Having said that, they were all fully crewed and I was having to race single-handed and navigate (new waters to me) and take pee-breaks etc. Also it was only the 2nd time I've sailed the boat - so didn't do too badly. And my handicap wasn't helped by the fact that it was worked out on the day by the local club 'expert' and I did myself no favours by smoking past him (and climbing above him) in his little 30-footer a few mins after crossing the line - after which I was doomed to a place-busting rating! All very friednly though and plan to do some more cruising races and some of the Wed eve Rum Races.

First visit to Kawau, lovely but suprisingly busy (holiday weekend I suppose). Did some fishing (snapper and gurnard), couple of BBQs and a motor home on Monday afternoon in the flatest water I've ever seen on the Gulf!

AC gets lifted out on Friday for a few days pre-season prep. icnlding some new through-hull transducers... yikes!

Re: Yep

Count me in... I normally have a glass or two of " champers "for b'fast on a Sunday...with my " wheeties' ..
I reckon its a great idea.Unfortunately the OZ members are scattered far and wide, however we will all be there in spirit ... just one request ... if you are drinking to our health, drink COLD beer
