I've re veneered the interior of my boat with oak, and replaced the galley with corian.

The table, desk and sideboard all have a formica or similar finish that's letting the side down. I could do oak on the horizontal surfaces as well but the black sparkly gloss finish looks nice within the wooden fiddles to me, as it stops there being too much oak.

Where can I buy a rigid and hard wearing surface? and what do you recommend? The formica site won't tell me where my nearest distributor is and I don't need a huge amount of it either.

They shut Wednesdays too. Perhaps their HQ is on the island. :)
As they are relatively local I think I’ll pop along.

Portsmouth is an Island too!
As we say about Lymington, it's not on the Isle of Wight, but it's on the way!
I bought some offcuts from Stockmart about 25 years ago.
 
As the old saying goes.
A fancy website doth not necessarily good service bring...
And not on Wednesday’s anyway.
And the fact that that good service has extended beyond 25 years is also a good omen in your quest.
 
Stockmark plastics are a great find.

I needed 6 accurately cut pieces, to inlay into various bits of the boat. I rang them in the first instance.

As I read out the sizes, the lady explained that it was getting expensive and I should just buy a whole sheet. I said that I needed accurate cuts as they were being inlaid, and because I couldn't sand or rout them down to size after fitting I wanted them to do the cutting. I know high quality laminate sheet is expensive but it takes a hammering so I wanted a top brand.

She was happy to order and cut it all without payment upfront, but I offered to pay. No card payments so I had to do a bank transfer.

I said that I'd email the sizes to ensure there was no confusion. Important I thought as she converted everything to inches to do the quote. No email so i had to write a letter. Stamp anyone?

And the "expensive" price?

£45.

Priceless I'd say.
 
I have a few places I use where they still maintain good customer service.

It will work out fine I am sure, and most places I use are fine with a cheque in the post...if you remember what those are..

As long as we use them they should all be there in years to come..

Pm your email I can’t be bothered with photos on this site too awkward. I did have loads on my refurb thread but theyve all gone. (Photobucket).

I oak veneered all the doors and cabinets in the same oak. . Well I say I, it’s a lot more work than I expected and Wayne the mad plant pot man was drafted in to help.

Galley was done with Maia which is like Corian.

The Formica is for the table, sideboard, chart table etc.
