REPOST - ANybody out there know the solution ???

Got a 128Kb user card for our plotter to transfer the waypoints to the other one (HSB link has failed and not repairable). Plotter recognises the card, but fails to save waypoints as not formatted.

Any idea how one formats (without buying more hardware) ? Have treid to RTFM but not mentioned at all.

Thanks

Taffy,

That is an excellent link and has a very good explanation as well as offering a proper fix. Does anyone know of a similar facility for a NT+ user card for a Standard Horizon CP 180i chartplotter?

Easiest way for C-Cards is to find a dealer with a DPS (Dealer Programming System) and they can format it for you (takes a few seconds)

I'm not sure if it can be done using the PC planner that C-Map sell, but im sure someone with a planner will be able to confirm that.

From the CP180/300 manual

11.0.0 Formatting the User C-CARD
1. Press [MENU]. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight USER POINTS and press [ENT].
2. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight USER C-CARD and press [ENT].
3. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight FORMAT and press [ENT].
4. A popup Warning window will to confirm you want to format the User C-CARD.
5. Select YES and press [ENT] to confirm (select NO otherwise). The format of User
C-CARD must be done before using a new User C-CARD: this operation prepares the
User C-CARD to receive and store information.
NOTE
Formatting permanently erases all files previously saved on the User C-CARD.

Afraid not
(a) would need extra hardware to connect an NT+ User card to a computer - not a standard hardware connection

(b) would need some sort of software to format it - as not a standard computer device, assume usual disk formatting software would not work
So it looks like they are compact flash cards, bog std, and only need a compact flash card reader to access, I sell them for about £6

So the NT+ User card for the older Raymarine RL70C does not appear to be a Compact Flash Card - certainly the physical dimensions do not mach to the sizes listed for Compact Flash Cards in WikiPedia. I wonder if the Comapct Flash might be used in newer Raymarince models ?

To answer question from Wally on PC Planner software from C-Map, yest it does format those user cards. You need a special card reader, supplied with the software. Its not very intuitive, takes a bit of playing around to get it working. Its ok for long passage planning and transferring multiple waypoints or routes from PC tp plotter but for just a days sailing, I find its generally not worth the hassle of saving to user card and then loading them on the plotter.
