I would like to inform everyone that I have formed a new club for those amongst us who like storm chasing and just want to do on water with others ... we share the experience and just imagine what stories we can bring back!

The idea is to have some real white water rapids style fun but out in the open sea. Its easy to join, to qualify you just need:-

1. A planing power boat no longer than 21 feet. If your is too long we accept hacksaw jobs.

2. Have voted in the previous thread as having been out in at least an f10 - those that made the f10 grade will be storm crew, the f11 brigade will be the first mate and the f12 brigade can skipper the boat.

3. Drogue experience is not required as that would slow the boats down - parachute experience - with the para in the air is a bonus and admiral status is awarded to those that have para sailed in a f12.

Now a fair number of you qualify for this lot - I will not accompany you of course as I will just organise each event from my home but I will be at the Quayside to see each group off - I realise there will be little point in waiting for their return.

problem with text is you cant assess the spirit in which its written.
In this case, it seems forum technology (ie vote here) is providing the potential for some sort of forum kangaroo court. I didnt check through the threads to see who (possibly, plural) feels personally comfortable in F10 in 21ft boat. But if they do feel comfortable and have the competence, isnt that their perogative? The only argument against that personal freedom (which hopefully people still believe in) is the onus put on a volunteer charity to save their lives if they have misjudged. I would imagine the individuals keenly support such a charity, but not because they consider their own behaviour to be reckless.
All seems a bit personal to me....was the day on the forum, people would be more open about it.

gjgm .... smile ....... please?

On a serious note I am not supporting any system that stops anyone going out in a 21 footer in an f10 - in fact I am forming a club so that the lifeboats can do a multiple save with just one call out instead of a lot of spun out individual trips. So this the club reduces the risk to the RNLI as a bonus.

There is also the club sticker being evolved - we are currently working on the glue to keep it stuck on the windscreen in an f12.

No doubt there be a diposable burgeee as well.

Nope Brendan is an f10er, who has to qualify yet for the f11 and f12 ranks so you are allowed to make it back as an f10er providing you agree to head out into the next f11. Be fair, this club provides opportunity and I know that the skill level is such that the trips will just be a breeze to some.

You could save costs by putting a big net looward to catch the stickers and burgees and recycle them.
all that good for the enviroment recycling /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If my 21' is suspended from a helicopter and I fit a big plank of wood accross the deck so as it sticks out about six foot either side and I get dropped over the solent from 2000' in an F12, by my calculations I should be able to glide back to the marina before I hit the water. I could fit a big aero prop to my stern drive to give me directional ability and the deck hatches could work as flaps. When I need to land I just saw off a foot at a time from the plank giving me less and less lift until touch down. Oh yeah I just tought, if I use the trim on the drive I could probably control my altitude, trim out, the bow rises and the angle of attack on the plank changes and I climb, trim in and I desend.

Jeez, I have little to do with my time, I am turning into a pratt by the minute, these chat room thingys should come with a health warning.

Yes catching the burgess that have survived an f12 could be a status symbol - sort of a few threads of cotton flying proudly from the mast .... needs consideration by the executive commitee ..... who are capable of generating a fair amount of wind themselves.

"needs consideration by the executive commitee ..... who are capable of generating a fair amount of wind themselves.".......now correct me if I'm wrong, but seeing as you proposed this club does that not make you head of the commitee?

This sounds like winner!

However, I think the number of people SAYING they'd go out in a F10 in a 21' and actually DOING it would produce 2 different results - show them a 21' and a nice F10 sea state and i think (or at least hope) everyone would decline.

But still, good to blow away the cobwebs every now and then...

No - I am too shy to be head of the club and nowhere near brave enough .... I am just a scivvy that helps and washes the cups after a meeting.
Imagine the head of the club has never even made crew status (f10 21 foot boat). It would cause a scandel if that was known, so I have to avoid a scandel and can only be a backroom boy ... sorry, nice try!
