Hi Guys
having problems with the removal of the forestay from the foil on a Plastimo 608S roller reefing - also require a short replacement 'plastic' insert for the same - any help appreciated

Nick

I haven't done this myself, but... I've been reading around the subject 'cos I'm looking to fit the 406s to my boat over winter and unless you can get the fitting off the end of the forestay (in which case it should just slide out) I think you will have to disassemble the foil.
To this end, have you perused the assembly instructions? - http://www.bluemoment.com/manuals/plastimo_s_series_roller_reefing.pdf
There's also a short educational film on YouTube, from none other than Mr Keep-Turning-Left himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Uj3wZaQS3Q
(Other purveyors of short educational films are available.)

Disassembly can (theoretically) be done with the mast still up, but may not be easy if the screws are chewed-up, very tight or corroded - Plastimo advise using silicone between the ss screws and aluminium foil to help prevent this.

I'm not sure where you might source some plastic insert - Plastimo supply an extension set, but it isn't particularly cheap if you only need a few cm of the insert. You could try ringing round some riggers or retailers, or one of the helpful folk on here may have a spare bit lying around.

My Facnor roller reefing and new forestay were fitted to the boat with the mast up. Two genoa halyards were attached to the forward deck cleats and hauled up tight. The rigger climbed the mast, detached the old forestay and lowered it down on the spinnaker halyard. The procedure was reversed when the new roller reefing was fitted. Since then I have moved the lower mounting position of the forestay several times after substituting halyards to take the load.
