For insurance purposes & general safety, I have to replace the corroded countersunk setscrews which fasten my forehatch through the foredeck moulding.

The screws appear to be some sort of aluminium alloy as is the hatch so I'm puzzled as to why they corroded in the first place.

Anyway to replace them, do I source more aluminium ones, or could I use the correct grade of stainless steel with liberal dollops of Duralac to prevent electrolysis? I suspect that s/s would be easier to source and cheaper.

All advice welcome.

I have always used stainless bolts for hetches etc, and so long as the whole thing is bedded on a good sealant, I have never had any problem with excessive corrosion around the bolts. I have never heard of anyone using Duralac in this context. I have always made sure that there was sealant round and under the countersunk bolt heads and not had a problem.
