I have recently aquired a ford wortham blake engine (1600cc)

It has a pipe on the sump which leads to nowhere and i was wondering if anyone knew what it does ? it looks as if at some point it connected to somewhere on the manifold ?

And does anybody know which ford engine it is based on ?

1600 is most likely from a Cortina.

If the pipe is on bottom of the sump then it could be an oil extractor pump (or if engine is fully marinised through an oil cooler jacket).
If the pipe is coming from above the sump then it's the crankcase breather which feeds back into the carburettor air intake.

If it's a push-rod rod engine it's likely to be a 1598cc Kent crossflow unit form the Mk 2 Cortina, Capri, Escort era. if it's an overhead cam it'll be a 1593cc unit from the Mk3 Cortina, Mk 2 Capri models. What model it's from also depends on whether the sump well is on the front or the back. The pipe is marinisation, not my speciality!
