Can anybody tell me the web address for obtaining access to spare information for Ford Marine and Industrial Engines. The engine is an XLD 418 but when I enquire at ford dealers offering spares they cannot help.

You will get all the marine spares at

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.asap-supplies.com>http://www.asap-supplies.com</A>

For your basic engine spares, you just use normal Ford parts.

You will have to look at the engine and find whether it has a Lucas or Bosch injection system.

If you are still having problems tell the Ford parts supplier it is an escort Van engine and quote the engine number which will be stamped on the block.
Earlier engines (up to about 1990) had normal hex headed cylinder head bolts and later engines use Torque cylinder head bolts. You must replace the head bolts with the same type if you remove the head.
Earlier engines have a V pulley type fan belt which tends to require frequent adjustment. The later engines have a flat ribbed belt which is much better. The early engine can be updated but removing the nut holding the front pulley on can be a bit of a pain.

If you do not know the history of the engine you must immediately change both timing belts.

If a belt goes it will take out one or all of the valves at least.

A kit is available from motor factors which has both belts and the idler pulley. The last time I bought a Ford 1800D belt kit it cost about £50.

I have marinised quite a few of them and fitted then to both cruisers and yachts.

Hope that info is of use to you

Iain

Thankyou Ian for the helpful comments.
I'm involved with a club boat. The vendor of the engine told us that Ford had a web site offering spares information. We now find that all they offer is a site locating the nearest ford dealer. I'm looking for the type number of the 50 amp Merelli alternator fitted to the engine and even the vendor cannot tell me.
When I ask about Ford Industrial and Marine Engines at Ford dealers who also offer a spares service they cannot help.
Thanks once again
