Anyone marinised this engine?

There were 3 different types of engines fitted to the Sierra. Two petrol, a 4 cylinder and a V6 and a diesel. Only the diesel was ever used in marine applications, and then usually the 1.8l version. Neither of the petrol engines is remotely suitable for marinisation and have been out of production for over 25 years.

Assuming you mean the Peugeot diesel and not the V6 petrol. I marinised the 2.5 turbo (same basic engine as the 2.3) a good few years ago, but I had to make the water cooled manifold myself out of stainless. Heat exchanger was an off the shelf general purpose item. I couldn't find a ready made exhaust manifold at the time, and those engines were still 'current'.
I think Lancing Marine might be able to help (if they are still in business!). I've still got a few 2.3 engine bits (blocks crankshafts heads, diesel pumps etc. etc).

Wow. Any photos?

Sorry no photos. I sold the boat (fairline fury 25) about 15 years ago, although it is still sat on its trailer about 200 yards away. Still got the Peugeots, but not been to sea for 3 or 4years. The manifold was fairly simple - 3 branches welded to quarter inch plate with exhaust port holes, and the whole thing boxed in watertight.

Try looking up Indenor this engine was used in lots of Dutch boats, I think Indenor was the non automotive name.

Indenor was the pre-Peugeot name although still automotive. Industrie du Nord Est.

Plenty of the 2112cc XD90 (and derivatives) marinised by Volvo, Vetus, Lehman and as you say the Dutch independents as 'Indenor Bootsmotor'.
I'm not aware of any mainstream marinisation of the 2304cc XD2 though.

Thanks peeps, I'm looking a boat sans engine and happen to have a sierra engine in the container, with big twin alternators. It came from a bayfront VW conversion, which the guy wanted back to original. Saves a bit of money, if it can be marinised. Don't really want to go the whole hog if I can find parts. PS anyone looking for an adapter plate Sierra 2.3 to VW bayfront? 20 beer tokens.

TIG welding. You can MIG (or stick) SS, but TIG is much better. Most inverter welders will do simple DC TIG with the correct torch and argon gas.

I wouldn't fancy trying it without the control pedal. I suppose it could be done, but starting and finishing the welds would be a bit hit and miss.

Bit late to the party but I have had a mariniesd XD2 2304cc 70Hp in my Colvic Victor 34 ketch for 14 years. It has a bell housing from Lansing driving a PRM. The heat exchanger is from a Mercriuiser and the water pump is on a bracket. I have run it without coolant for 20 minutes, I have run it under water several times (dont ask) and I have even tried to run it on water. This thing has been brilliant until last year when the starter motor then the flywheel lost teeth.

Could not get a new ring gear (Turned it round and it stripped again) for love nor money so bought new flywheel and starter. Needed new driveplate and flexible coupling from Lancing but it all worked like a dream only would not start. I asked three engineers to look at it, they all came and said oh no, don't know Peugeot and left. I now have a guy who has got it spinning faster (new paint is an insulator) It heats, spins, squirts but nothing else, even EasyStart wont make a cough, no suck and he says its piston rings. I am going to have one last go over the next couple of days acting on advice from Lansing. but if it wont start then its coming out, I am buying loads of Perkins 4.107 with marinising kits and starting a refurb business if the 'ol Pug has to go. Its an Indenor by the way and I know a lot about them now!
