I have a pair of 2704E engines in my boat. After a painful and abortive attempt to change the oil filter I have decided to convert to spin off oil filters.

There are 3 companies offering the conversion.... are they all the same????

ASAP £71.66
http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine.../marine-engine-spin-on-oil-filter-head-155065

Lancing £45
http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/...ter-conversion-ford-/3058#GDypWAmcjMX7vOal.97

and
Seahorsepower £28.60

All include filter but exclude vat and postage.

Quite a significant difference in price.... especially when doubled up for both engines.

Has anyone fitted any of these, or can offer advice???
Cheers.

All 3 reputable companies. I'd speak with seahorse power, who I've dealt with very satisfactorily in the past, and see what they say/recommend.

Hi Dean
I have fitted the ASAP one to Mermaid 120hps (which are the same block) and worked a treat. However looking at the photo the Lancing one is identical so if i was doing it today i would buy that!

Mike,
Thanks for that... it gives me the confidence I'm doing the right thing. My major concern is clearance. Looking at the photo, there is an oil cooler directly under the oil filter. Was yours the came config? Will the spin on filter clear the top of the oil cooler?

That one would be easy, it's 'tother side. Involves laying across the engine with head under side decks. Then somehow the pesky sealing ring didn't achieve what it was supposed to!!! Fresh oil everywhere!!!

I guess in the general scheme of things they are not too bad to do, but an inexpensive spin on will make life simpler.

I think you can fit different filters ie longer ones and shorter ones (at least I can do this on current perkins) so if you pick the right filters should be ok

If you haven't put your money in Lancing's pocket yet, out of the three options I'd recommend Seahorse Power as theirs will be of equal quality or better. Alternatively, we will price match Seahorse - just PM me your details.
