Anyone know anything about these engines? Running costs (fuel, spares), reliability etc?

Thinking of making an offer on a Broom 35 European which has a pair with 3000 hours on them. Current owners have lived aboard and cruised the French canals/Med for the last couple of years so underuse/corrosion shouldn't be a problem.

Will get a mechanical survey but any info would be welcomed.

Based on the ford cargo engine, naturally asperated, will go forever, smokey until warm. Sabre, Mermaid, and others used them, from the early 70's to present day in the case of Mermaid but are now a little cleaner than hitherto. Spares should not be problem.

Lancing marine say they can help with all Lehman spares, engine internals prob. same as base ford model.

Thanks - do you mean engine internals a problem or probably the same as the base Ford model?
