Force 50 hp. NEW IMPELLER FITTED BUT STILL WON\'T PUMP WATER

HI 1988 50HP (507F8D)

I fitted new impeller but still no water is being pumped through, have put hose on all in/outlets and does not appear to have a blockage as water flows........
Any Ideas what i should try next
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not familiar with Force outboards BUT Are you sure you fitted the drive key for the impeller and that it did not fall out while you wre frigging about putting the rest back together?

Are you sure you located the water tube correctly in the pump together with any grommet there may have been.

Sure you fitted the correct impeller.

Assuming you access the pump simply by dropping the LU off you can test the pump by sticking the LU in enough water to submerge it and spin the shaft with an electric drill. (cordless preferably)

ok will try that with the drill, yes to all the others . defo exact same impeller and will double check everything and get back to you

Re: Force 50 hp. NEW IMPELLER FITTED BUT STILL WON\'T PUMP WATER

Is this happening when running only on mufflers or when actually in the water also? The reason for asking, I had a Force 90 many boats ago which when I bought it was concerned that hardly any water came out of the tell tale when running on mufflers. When put into the water, and run under load a good flow would come out.

in a tub or when i tried with muffs, not had in water yet, nothing coming out so stopped motor whipped off hose and it was dry and engine very hot to touch........ just looked and there is no thermostat in it...............this is an engine I have aquired recently.........I take it it won't run without thermo........ does system need a little pressure

Thank you

When I was in the process of buying I asked the vendor to run it up on mufflers. I was going to walk away when a few spits of water came from the three exhaust holes. The vendor assured me that this was normal for a force so we took it to a nearby waterski lake where he reversed the boat in off the slip. When he run it up again it was fine. I had 3 seasons out of it with no problem at all.

You're problem may be different, but it may be worth trying it actually in the water.

I heard that force don't let much out till they are going, I was just a little worried that the water chambers seemed empty..........

I am getting an envinrude 70 so this is only a back up

If the pump seems ok ,and is assembled correctly,I think the main area to explore would be the head gasket. If it is blown the force of air in the agacent waterways which will stop the water flow.

Re: Force 50 hp. NEW IMPELLER FITTED BUT STILL WON\'T PUMP WATER

Not unusual for muffs not to work. You need a really good water flow to them I think because so much is wasted. Far better esp if having trouble on the muffs to use a decent sized tub or tank.

You can try it without the thermostat but running without is not recommended. The argument is along the lines that without a thermostat to control the temperature at the correct level the cylinder is overcooled while the piston still reaches normal temperatures. The result is that the piston to cylinder clearance is reduced and might lead to problems

Re: Force 50 hp. NEW IMPELLER FITTED BUT STILL WON\'T PUMP WATER

What was the condition of the impellor / pump housing?
If it is corroded or pitted water flow will be poor.
Plus-- condition of old impellor.
Any blades missing?.

Just sorted a bigger eng Force but same era.
Owner supplied impellor was just a tad the wrong size.
I tried to clean up the housing to no avail.
New housing, impellor , woodruff key and gaskets.
Result.
Water flow excellent even on muffs.
