Were you begining to think no-one was going to reply to you?? Mate of mine who also moors on the Deben fitted one this season. I don't think that he intended to buy one but the auctions for the liquidation of Marineforce/Captn W O Watts etc were all held in Nottingham so we all ended up with lots of bargins bought on the spur of the moment. He could not get his to run properly on diesel but it is OK on parafin. However he does seem to spend quite a bit of time pumping it and cleaning it.
I fitted an Eberspacher (2nd hand one) which I am delighted with. Probably best thing I have bought for the boat after GPS and Autohelm. Total cost about £350 including all fittings.
I will see him Tuesday night at our weekly "Yacht Club" meeting (excuse for a weekly piss-up in a Newark pub talking to chaps who sail together) so if you have any questions, ask them and I will get replies from him tomorow. He did say there was a previous thread on this subject some time ago.
Regards. Paul

John, I purchased the Force10 lpg heater to replace the catalytic in my Westerly Konsort. Great bit of kit, no priming or awkward lgnition problems. Vented thru coach roof, provides warm condensation free heat. I did install a gas alarm as a safety measure. Reasonably economical too....
Hope this is useful

Thanks chaps. I'm too scaredy cat for the lpg version. I want a heater on my boat, I want not to rely on electricity - it's only a small boat and there are quite enough calls on the batteries as it is. So it looks like a gravity fed diesel heater is the way to go. I'm dead short of space - in a 26 ft boat the only feasible place is in the heads/wet locker, but that could be worse.I have considered the Taylors but the Force 10 looks an incy wincy bit smaller. Is it reliable? Does it get soot in your cabin? The usual stuff. By the way I don't mind if no one answers my posts. There's no obligation on people after all. But thanks anyway. Ill try searching on the archive too.

John, I had a Taylors Parafin htr in my Centaur for a season which was mounted in the hanging locker opposite the heads. The forecabin got very hot while the saloon remained quite cool....it was also susceptable to downdraughts which were quite scarey!
If you already have a lpg cooker onboard the danger is already present...
My Force10 has a flame failure device and a stop tap immediately beneath the unit, good practice dictates that the stop tap is always in the off position when heater not in use.
Diesel heaters are also subject to down draught problems unless a balanced flu set up can be arranged...
Good luck!

John, I too am considering the Force 10. Since you posted your note, have you bought one? If so, I would appreciate your experiences.

Thanks.

Hi Plum,
I had a look at one on the shelf in Fox's and decided the finish was a bit agricultural for me. The Taylors is better but is horrendously expensive. Instead I bought an ex BT Eberspacher 2nd hand from a dealer in Kent. it was in very good/nearly new condition, was demonstrated to me working.
Yours
John
