Forbsie! How\'s the boat?
Hi all, especially Forbsie! Hope you are well and still afloat. I have finally been persuaded that I've been boatless for too long, and that I may as well sit on a steamer on a nice teak deck all day as in a chair, in a house off the North Circular.
So I finally have a boat again. Or rather my father has a boat and I live on it, drive it for him and do most of the 'legs-not-necessary' work on it. We were lucky enough to find a 1973 Grand Banks 48' MotorYacht, one of the last eight built from wood before they moved to singapore, that has been owned by Joe McKenzie- the owner of Buckie Shipyard for many years. It was his private boat which only a select few of the men were allowed to work on. It was then owned for 15 years by a guy who ran several oil companies in Aberdeen who really lavished attention on her and kept her in fantastic condition. We picked her up in Lossimouth and then went Buckie-Peterhead-Burnham-on-Crouch where we will be based from now on. She handled the North Sea with aplomb, the (original) engines never skipped a beat, and she's a doddle to handle. It has also done me the world of good, getting active and being in the fresh air all day. The only (!) thing that has to be done this year is to give her a new coat of paint and varnishing. Fortunately I have a brother who actually enjoys it. I know, odd isn't it?
I will be posting up pictures soon, as they have wi-fi here. Very civilised.
Has anybody here used Coelan for anything other than decks? I want to use it on the rails and lockers, the decks will stay bare.
