For those of you brave enough....

Don't think there will be many brave enough this weekend, Dave. Storm force 11 forecast on Saturday, gusts up to 65 knots. I'm staying safely tucked up at home. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So you have not invited Pete down for the weekend then? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm on QHM VHP duty on Saturday - be interesting to see how many punters we'll have? Mind you, if it is blowing as predicted Volunteer 1 will stay in Whale Island!!! Or at the very least stay in the harbour.

So please explain for us less informed.

Is that, 'Queens Harbour Master... Volunteer Harbour Patrol?'

Does this mean you're the guys that get in the way of the small boat channel and give permission to cross from the Ballast Buoy? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not me guv'nor! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But you are right in your first line

Not as bad as forecast, a measly 33.4 knots recorded at Bramblemet, Poole showing 43 knots.

A tame F8/9. Too much for me though /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was out on QHM patrol this morning. Got very wet and decided, as there was no one about, it was a rather fruitless exercise to stay out all day. Got back to Whale Island at around 11.00 and by then the wind had dropped. Metcheck seems to be getting it right. Met office seem to be all about face, but nowhere near as bad as forecast. Made this last week very difficult to plan. I've got 2 boats to move next week, one from Plymouth and one from Poole - makes life very difficult not being able to relay on the reports. But sods law says that whatever you do you'll be dammed! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Interesting - I was quite taken by Metcheck when I came across it last year, but then decided it was quite wrong quite a lot so it has dropped off my Bookmarks. Are you suggesting I should go back?

It varies, but of late it's not been too bad. I think forecasting seems to rely too much on computer programmes now and not often enough on good old skill and experience of homo sapiens (sp? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif).

But a caveat would be that the previous week it was crap!!
