As my boat will be crossing borders !! with a part filled fuel tank ... I may actually top up before the off !!!!

I will be taking samples of the fuel and running them through my lab to ascertain exact quality against what is supplied base material ....

If anyone wants to access / chat to me about this ... I will do it via e-mail - so please PM .... (I will later publish via YBW forums ... so |I am not using these forums as free advertising etc. - but you can appreciate there are commercial aspects involved that need filtering out - BUT quality will be reported !!)

For those sceptics - my fuel is a mix already of various outlets around Solent ... so should be typical of fuel supplied to sail / motor etc. ..... and that is also why I am not posting this on MOBO / Fuel forums etc. It concerns us ALL.

I must be bonkers !!!!

I think you may have mis-understood Charles ...

I am talking about my tank being full of UK Red .... not other EU based.

And it is not strictly true about only Belgium and Eire as other markets .... in fact France does have a lower spec Diesel similar .... as we regularly blend and bench test it ... it is in 2 grades .... Fuel Oil Domestique 40 and F.O.D. 49 ..... the numbers refer to the Cetane Number.
Baltic States also have lower spec grades - but are restricted to heating oil use ...

UK Red certainly is not normal Road diesel - it is usually based on 0.2% Sulphur stock. Only some suppliers alter it and use part lower sulphur stock.

My intention is to analyse the UK red I have more deeply than previous ... we do it regularly to Clients orders which are usually basic unless they have some idea of problems etc. The idea is to have exact details for UK red .... so that the data is available for those who need / want it.

If somone was to send me samples from another source ... such as another EU country ... I would test it as well - see if there is any difference ... but there would have to be a small charge as I my lab cannot work for nothing !! Also I am in Latvia - so difficult at moment to send fuels since security clamp down.

Mazout is the lower grade stuff and the fioul is the better stuff, in layman's French. The useless info I have collected over the years never ceases to amaze me.
