Having forgotten to book myself into an east City hotel this evening, I find myself in Greenwich, a pleasant and attractive place with some rather significant maritime connections. Anyway, on my way back to the Ibis after a light meal, I hear a tenor sax led quartet playing a ballad somewhere; further investigation takes me round a corner to Oliver's Music Bar.

So. it was mainly bebop and post bop jazz. Second set was the same team in a jam session with a young trombonist playing Bird's Donna Lee, a tricky piece based on the chords of Indiana, as well as a singer and another bop oriented tenor. The two tenors and the rhythm section finished with a really tight version of Anthropology. PDG. Worth checking out, and handy for the DLR. Fiver for admission and four quid a pint; almost like going back to Ronnie's about 25 years ago.....

I'm told Tuesday is jazz and Wednesday is jazz jam, but easy to check before you go there.

EDIT: Umm, sorry folks, this was meant to be posted in the Lounge, which is where I was when I posted the damned thing....
