Re-commissioned the engine today but could not get the raw water to come through the Vetus water filter. After wasting a lot of time checking everything and re-priming went up to the Marina office(BYH) to book an engineer to check over the system. The yard manager talked me through the whole raw water system and suggested some remedies. Went back to the boat and put a little grease on the O ring for the water filter and bingo worked right away. Realise I had left the top off over winter and it had probably dried out a bit.

Hats off to the Marina they could easily have charged me for an engineer

I've had similar pleasant experiences at BYH when I was based there. I was told: no point in having us charge you 40-odd quid an hour for something you can do easily yourself. I know some on here aren't of the same opinion but I always found them decent people to deal with.

I needed a little bit of help when my boat was in BYH. An engineer came along, sorted the problem and the bill was very modest. Showed me what I was doing wrong and how to do it right next time...........so another positive story for BYH
