I'm on a mission to find that elusive thing, a reasonable eatery relatively near to the High Street in Cowes with good, post sailing nosh. Had quite a good Fish and Chips in the Anchor a couple of weeks ago, and on a Saturday managed to find a seat, but still everyone around us standing used our table as somewhere to plonk their drinks while chatting on their mobiles, so want to try somewhere else next time. Any ideas anyone, any hidden gems in back streets, am I on to a loser already LOL?

The BEST Indian I have had in ages on Cowes High Street - and given I live in Curry capital of Leicester and work near Southall, I think I'm entitled to a view. Can't remember what it's called, but it's not your regular Madras and Nan job

If you want fish and chips, go to Corries Cabin just along from the Anchor - they have a small sit down restaurant as well.

Nothing of note in the backstreets, what you see is what you get. Everything is much of a muchness. The Union Inn is good, along towards the Parade, or if you fancy a walk to the other end of the Esplanade try the Woodvale at Gurnard.

For good food you could try Mojacs or the Restaurant Amadeus. For a good curry try the Bahaar. The Island Sailing Club is also good for dinner with a great view.

Leave Cowes and take a walk along the front to the Woodvale at Gurnard a very nice place to go with good food as well as a good range of beers, with views across the Solent.

Location - Princes Esplanade, Gurnard, Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO31 8LE
