W/end of 12-13 august .... was not impressed with Folly on the friday evening.

Staff surly .... tables all "supposedly" booked out and need to ask for one - so they give you worst table in house ...

It definitely didn't have the atmosphere or character of previous ... and I don't understand - same landlord ... is it the change from Gales onwership ?

I am now serious to consider missing out Folly and if poss. cont. onto Newport ... only stopping at Folly if tide dictates.

Sad !

Never cared for it after banging my head on the ceiling whilst dancing on the table.

Also you get people there who don't know how to behave themselves.

Weyside Inns - though it has been a bit hit and miss for years.

I guess as demand goes up, they get lazy so people stop coming so they work a bit harder and demand goes back up again and so on and so forth...

Re: Folly Inn? - blame the yotties!

Have enjoyed two club rallies there this season, and the staff do wonders in coping with group bookings and are very phlegmatic when people don't show. THAT is what puts 'Reserved' on empty tables to the surprise of chance arrivals.
Best to phone when turning into Cowes Roads - the number's in Reeds.

I've always found the folly to be an excellent evening out. Only been there on Saturdays mind you. The Staff are brilliant and the food is good pub grub.

It's a one of a kind in the Solent as there is nowhere else like it. There are the night clubs of Gun Wharf or Pubs that sell grub but nothing with the atmosphere and the welcome to all (big or small) of the Folly.

Never mind, you not going may free up a table for me!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have been going to the Folly since asmall child .... long before they added the extensions ..... I can remember the Sally Army coming round and handing out The Warcry.

I have very fond memories of the Folly .... I also remember when they changed the Landlord and the whole atmosphere died literally that day ! Dancing on the tables stopped .... biz slowed down etc. They brought back the Landlord and bingo - dancing / biz was back on.

I mentioned Gales as Gales Ales are not available there now - even though Fullers have continued some of them ....

Sorry but the atmosphere was not so great that night last there .... and prompted my post. I hope it get's back - or just an off-night.

was there 2/12/06 for lunch - Masses to eat, good quality, good pint and friendly staff. First visit on back of first sail to IOW so I'd probably have been happy with beans on toats, but fair do's it was a good part of a great day and I look forward to returning

Have been there twice this year and both times the food, drink and ambiance have been great. The food is especially good.

Strange, we went there for the first time this season two Friday evenings ago and both thought the food was way off the quality it was last year.

Re: Folly Inn back to top form

Looks like the "mid season malaise" may have kicked in. We ate there a few times early this season having not rated it for a couple of years and it was rather good. Mind you the pontoons weren't full to bursting then and there were empty tables, so they probably weren't swamped with orders.

Re: Folly Inn back to top form

Went Twice in September (Saturday Evening and Wednesday Evening). Both times very good. Good service for food but bar poorly manned both times. Overall still a great place to go!

Cheers
