folding/rotating table on 18\'er

I would like a table in the saloon. I see it being just slightly larger than a folio chart and able to rotate so it can sit athwart ships as a chart table or fore and aft for eating.

The table top is easilly made of course, but I need to find the right bracket. We have a wooden mast post and ideally, I would like a hinged bracket to attach to this with a detachable swivel arrangement.

I can't seem to find the right bracket. I am fairly sure that the chandlers may be the wrong place, if they have such a thing it'll be overpriced.

Does anyone have any ideas or even experience of a similiar job?

Hi, you could try one of the double-jointed wall brackets for TVs, they are designed to carry quite a heavy weight. I use a small version to mount my VHF and radar display, so that they will swing out of the companionway, or back inside out of the way against the bulkhead. I have made the attachment on the arm so that it will take the VHF and/or the radar or plotter, depending on what is going on at the time. It works well on a small boat (25').

I'd made a wooden clamp for my swinging table but I like the idea of the TV bracket for swinging away the instruments - I've been mulling over that problem for a while. I'll now have to start looking at those!! Thanks.

Pippin (22') has a table which folds in half, and is usable either folded or opened out. It is mounted near one corner on a clamp that slides up and down the (aluminium) mast support post which is offset from the centre line. When not in use, the table slides right up to the deck-head so it is out of the way (there's a recess to take it). Once lowered, its position can be adjusted by swivelling it around the post.

Here's a photo of the table in its stowed position, which may help visualise the arrangement.

Re: folding/rotating table on 18\'er

My Sabre 27 came with a purpose built table on a single metal leg which screwed into the saloon floor or into the cockpit floor. But it was heavy and awkward so we now use a small wooden folding picnic table which cost £8, in Focus I think, and which stows away easily because it's small and light. We only use it when in harbour but who needs a full size table in the way of everthing when at sea?
