I am thinking about purchasing a folding prop for my jeanneau so37. The boat is fitted with a volvo 29h.p. engine & a shaft driven prop not a sail drive. Has anyone got any ideas on which make to go for. I would be grateful for any information sent.

We've got a MaxProp. Was recommended to us. We're quite happy with it; seems to work OK but hard to quantify as we had a new main and rigging at same time. Not the cheapest by any means...

seems like you're not getting that many responses. There have been quite extensive ones in the past. Try search the archive on "Flex-O-Fold", "Gori", "Autoprop" and "Maxprop" and you should get about all there is.
I have a Felx-o-Fold and can recommend it very highly.

Check my post on the PBO board on Moody 33 Propsize. To sum up, if you've spare cash, get a feathering prop, e.g., Maxprop; if you race you NEED a folding prop (Gori or Radice). If you have other spending priorities and you don't race, fit a fixed 3-blade, as you'll be unlikely to notice the drag and you'll welcome the extra push when you need it.

After one season..

...with a 3-blade MaxProp instead of the 24" fixed 3-bladed one I must say that it´s a big difference:

1. Noticeable better speed under sail in light winds - I would dare to say somewhere between 0,5 and 1 knot.

2. Better thrust in reverse.

3. The possibility to adjust the pitch resulted in 250 RPM lower engine speed at the same cruising speed. Which means quite much in terms of comfort.

4. Lost most of the propwalk in reverse. I would not regard this as a benefit on my yacht - but it might be on others.

So, I´m very satisfied! But the price.....
