Hi, my 2 blade folding prop has a little wobble on the blades, does anyone know the tolerances between the mounting pins and the hole in the blades? It's a 15 x 11 and pins roughly 10mm (will measure later)

All help most appreciated!

Play should be minimal otherwise the gears will wear as the blades move around. Advice jeered from Prop specialist or the manufacturer/dealer on how to deal with wear.

Depends what you are really worried about and how far up the list it is. The gears are only there to keep the blades roughly in sync as they open and close. So long as they can't jump a gear, then the prop will work. On some designs there is a plastic bump stop restricting the nlade opening to the ideal position. I have an old prop without such a feature and although when over-opened it can jump a cog, it still worked fine - the water pressure pretty much does the work. I only changed it because I wanted to change the pitch.

I believe that when the blades really begin to waggle around embarassingly the holes are bushed and new pins fitted.

Thanks Rob, I think I might looking at shimming the gap between the blades rather then re-bush the blades at this stage.

I'm surprised there aren't more posts on this topic as it must be a common problem.

I had a folding prop where the pin holes in the blades had ovalled slightly. Shimming with thin copper washers fabricated from thin copper sheeting did the trick.

I would always recommend Darglow. When I bought my 1986 boat and phoned them in 2005 to discuss a new prop, I gave them the serial number of the original and they greeted me by the original owner's name and quoted the full specification from their ledger!
